Remote TCM Enters a New Stage: From Online Consultation to a Complete Care Loop

What the industry needs is not a single online entry point, but a complete loop spanning pre-visit capture, consultation, prescription flow, fulfillment, follow-up adjustment and case accumulation.

In recent years internet healthcare has grown quickly, and online consultation, repeat prescriptions and medication delivery have become familiar services. But for TCM, the difficulty of remote care is not merely "can doctor and patient communicate online" — it is how the look, listen, ask and feel information on which TCM relies can be captured, standardised and used as completely and continuously as possible in a remote setting.

TCM's strength lies in holistic observation and syndrome differentiation. A patient's chief complaint, tongue, complexion, pulse, history, medication feedback and follow-up changes together form the basis of a physician's judgement. If remote TCM stops at text Q&A or simple prescribing, it weakens the integrity of TCM care. What the industry truly needs is therefore not a single online entry point, but a complete loop covering pre-visit capture, consultation, prescription flow, fulfillment, follow-up adjustment and case accumulation.

This also explains why "digital TCM" should not be reduced to AI consultation or selling medicine online. The value of technology lies in helping physicians obtain more complete information, helping patients cut distance and time costs, helping grassroots institutions connect to quality physicians, and making medication a traceable, continuous service.

Beijing Hongrun Kangyuan, for example, is not trying to replace physicians with AI. Around a licensed internet hospital, real TCM physician resources, remote pulse acquisition / replay, four-diagnostic data capture and a herbal supply chain, it builds a remote smart TCM care platform forming a loop of "diagnosis — care — medication — follow-up — data". After a patient completes basic and four-diagnostic capture at a partner point, an internet-hospital physician performs consultation, differentiation and prescription; medication is then fulfilled and continuously adjusted through follow-up.

In this model, remote care is no longer a one-off online chat but a continuous medical process. Physicians judge on more complete information, patients avoid cross-city trips, and partner points can take on more TCM services within a compliant framework.

Of course, remote TCM must hold the compliance line. However technology advances, medical judgement and prescribing must be done by qualified physicians per law; AI, devices and systems are only assistive tools and must not be packaged as independent care entities. Valuable innovation is not about bypassing physicians and regulation, but improving efficiency, completeness and fulfillment on a compliant basis.

This is an industry observation; company practices are cited as examples and do not constitute medical advertising or efficacy claims.
