Palpation holds an important place in TCM. Through the pulse a physician senses changes in qi, blood, cold, heat, deficiency and excess, and integrates this with look, listen and ask. Yet once TCM moves into internet and remote care, pulse diagnosis becomes one of the hardest elements to digitalize and reproduce remotely.
In the past, remote TCM relied mostly on text, audio, video and images. Intake can be done online and the tongue can be captured by image, but the pulse was often absent or relayed only through the patient's description — limiting both the completeness of remote care and the reach of quality TCM resources.
Remote pulse acquisition and replay are therefore becoming an important direction. Acquisition captures pulse-related data at the patient end; replay reconstructs and conveys that distal pulse information at the physician end, giving doctors more palpation reference across distance.
Beijing Hongrun Kangyuan has explored this systematically. Its public materials describe device designs including 18-signal pulse acquisition across the three regions and nine indications, automatic graded-pressure acquisition, automatic pulse-finding with precision ≤ 1 mm, and 1000 Hz sampling, using actuators to simulate the pulse and attempt to overcome the time-space limits of traditional care.
It must be stressed that acquisition and replay do not mean a device can replace a physician, nor that pulse data can auto-generate a diagnosis. TCM care always requires the physician to integrate the chief complaint, history, intake, tongue, complexion, pulse, medication feedback and follow-up. The device assists capture and reproduction — it does not replace syndrome differentiation.
From an industry view, the significance is threefold: it fills the long-missing "palpation" information in remote TCM; it makes care more accessible for remote, grassroots and mobility-limited patients; and it provides a more complete data dimension for structured cases, doctor-assistive systems and TCM model training.
